Faeröer
De Faeröer (Faroer eilanden) zijn een eilandengroep, gelegen in de noordelijke Atlantische Oceaan in het midden van de driehoek Schotland-Noorwegen-IJsland. De archipel vormt een autonoom gebied binnen het Koninkrijk Denemarken. De naam Faeröer betekent 'schapeneilanden'. Er wonen 48.668 (2008) mensen, van wie veel in de hoofdstad Tórshavn. De plaatselijke Noord-Germaanse dialecten, verwant aan het IJslands, vormen een aparte taal, gestandaardiseerd in het Faeröers.
